Walter James Bennett

Walter J. Bennett (87) went peacefully home on March 6, 2021. Walt was born March 31, 1933 in Jersey City, NJ. After graduating from Lehigh University and serving two years in the Army, he married Denise Macklin in 1957. Together they started Walter Bennett Enterprises and built a life in Brookfield, WI. An avid golfer, he was a member of Merrill Hills Country Club in Waukesha for many years before retiring to Pinehurst, NC. While in NC, Walt help found The Academy of Moore County, a charter school. Walt was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Katherine, and one daughter, Collette. He is survived by his wife Denise, his brother Ralph, and his children Diane (Bill), Lisa (Terry), Michelle (Kuy) and Walter (Sandy). He also leaves behind his grandchildren Billie (Christian), Michael, Shanna, Corey, Alec and Ian and great grandchildren Christian and Viviana, as well as many other friends and family. Family and friends will gather to celebrate Walt’s life on Saturday, May 15, 2021 between 10 and 11 AM at St. John Vianney Parish 1755 N. Calhoun Road in Brookfield. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a contribution to The Academy of Moore County (12588 Hwy 15-501 So., Aberdeen, NC 28315).
