Verene Helen
Cirillo
Aug 18, 1933 — Jun 11, 2026
Verene Helen Cirillo passed away peacefully in her 92nd year on June 11, 2026. Born in Waukesha to Frank and Helen Rohloff, Verene lived a long life marked by service, loyalty, humor, and compassion.
In 1957, Verene married her true love, Emil “Hogie” Cirillo, and together they shared 61 blessed years of marriage. Their bond was one of deep affection and quiet joy, strengthened by their shared love of common values, fishing up north, pheasant hunting, good Italian food, and the goals they pursued side by side. Verene carried their love story in her heart long after Hogie’s passing in 2018.
A proud veteran, Verene served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a meteorologist. She cherished her time in service, often recalling the camaraderie, the sense of purpose, and the thrill of flying in the planes.
To her friends and neighbors, Verene will be remembered as independent, intelligent, and kind‑hearted. Her presence enriched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. She had a genuine interest in people and a deep affection for animals.
Animals always held a special place in Verene’s heart. She especially loved dogs — her own cherished companions (most recently Teddy Bear) as well as the neighborhood dogs over the years. She and Hogie spent time volunteering with the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha (HAWS), sharing their kindness with animals in need.
Verene appreciated life’s simple pleasures: a homemade meal, a thoughtful conversation, and the chance to share stories and laughter. She was a witty conversationalist with an extraordinary memory, able to recall people, places, and events with remarkable clarity. Her recollections of Waukesha’s history, the details of the changing neighborhood and her own childhood tales were a constant source of admiration.
Verene leaves behind many fond memories and will be deeply missed. She never lost her sense of humor. Although Verene never drank in her later years, she would often joke "I need to go to the tavern for a shot and a beer".
In accordance with her wishes, no formal service will be held. Friends and neighbors are invited to remember her in their own way and to honor her memory through kindness to animals or donations to Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha (HAWS).
