Timothy J. Hoehnke

Timothy Hoehnke, age 31, passed away on March 19, 2021. Tim is survived by his loving parents, Scott and Valerie (Kananen), brother Brad, grandparents John and Barbara Kananen, grandfather Ronald Hoehnke, aunts, uncles, cousins, and second cousins. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Barbara Hoehnke. Tim battled cancer for 15 years. In high school he had Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia. Then he was diagnosed with two brain tumors during college. He had surgery and radiation. He battled the ugliest brain tumor, a glioblastoma(GBM). Two more craniotomies, radiation, and chemo. This tumor kept growing. He won three battles but the fourth was just too much. His body said enough after the fourth craniotomy. Tim was a giving and caring person. He volunteered at Children’s Wisconsin and Camp One Step. He spoke at many events including the MACC Fund and Froedtert Hospital. Tim was a speaker at the American Brain Tumor Association Conference. He wanted to be an inspiration but also a motivator. Tim was an ambassador (spokesperson) for the Optune head array. He traveled the country to tell others about his journey with the Optune. Tim went to Washington DC to speak to senators about insurance coverage for tumor treating fields therapy. Tim got his degree as an occupational therapy assistant. He was very proud of finishing while still battling cancer. Tim believed your spirit and positive attitude were important. He was a member of the Young Adult Oncology Group(YAOG). He brought laughter, motivation, and a hopeful attitude when the YAOG met to support each other. Tim lived a fitness and good nutrition life. He always said he was fighting cancer with fitness. He was thriving while surviving. Tim was often heard to say, “I’m not living with cancer, Cancer is living with ME.” Tim’s Celebration of Life event is scheduled for April 10, 2021 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm at the Four Points by Sheraton (8900 North Kildeer Court, Brown Deer, WI 53209). Masks will be required except when eating or drinking. If you would like to bring a picture to share, there will be a place to display the pictures. Tim requested this celebration be a casual and joyous event. In lieu of flowers, donations towards the Young Adult Oncology Group that Tim was a long time member and leader of are welcome.
