After walking the long, hard road of Alzheimer’s disease, Susan Lueck (née Holmgren) ended her long good-bye on August 10, 2026. She was born on October 24, 1945, to the late Raymond and Rosemary (née Rice) Holmgren. She was a lifelong Kenosha resident.

From an early age, Susan possessed a fierce determination and a spirit that thrived whenever someone told her "no." As a talented young baton twirler, she won countless awards before turning her passion into a business. At just 18 years old, she opened "Sue's School of Baton and Dance," coaching students in technique and guiding them through competitive achievements.

Susan loved to sew. Her sewing machine was rarely quiet, as she lovingly crafted everything from everyday clothing and cozy quilts to elegant bridesmaid dresses and elaborate, imaginative puppets.

When diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes as a teenager, doctors cautioned that she would never be able to have children. Proving the naysayers wrong once again, Susan went on to welcome three children. Being a mother was the absolute greatest joy of her life, a devotion she warmly reaffirmed to her kids well into their adulthood. At the time of her diagnosis, diabetes care and management was in its infancy and her doctors told her that she would not live long with the disease. That was 63 years ago.

Her diagnosis inspired a lifelong passion for diabetes advocacy, research, and self-care. She became a pillar of the local American Diabetes Association chapter, serving in numerous leadership capacities, including chapter president. Once her children were older, Susan pursued a career in healthcare, earning her nursing degree and joining St. Mary’s Hospital in Racine (now Ascension) as a Registered Nurse. Driven to do even more, she continued her education to become a Certified Diabetes Educator, empowering and guiding patients until her retirement.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Rosemary; her sister, Donna Irving; and her son, Joseph Lueck.

She is survived by her children, Jeffery ("Chip") Lueck and Jennifer Lueck, who will forever cherish her strength, love, and unwavering support. She is also survived by her dear "twin sister-in-law", Betty Lueck.
