Sara L. Christiansen

February 10, 1968 — October 17, 2025

Brookfield

Sara Lee Christiansen, 57, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, passed away on October 17, 2025 after fighting metastatic breast cancer fiercely for many years. Sara passed away in hospice at home peacefully, surrounded by family. We deeply love her and will miss her.

Sara was born on February 10, 1968, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Peter Christensen III and Nancy Jane Halter. Losing her mom to cancer at an early age, she graduated high school early at age 16, lived in Turkey for a year on an exchange program (where she learned to speak Turkish) and later attended the University of Wisconsin–Madison, graduating with a degree in economics.

Sara pursued a career in information technology, focusing on programming, data, and software development. Sara was also passionate about education and helping others learn, and taught programming languages at the technical school in Madison as well as helping others in the workplace.

Known for her cheerful, happy, and positive nature, Sara would help anyone. She loved animals, loved hosting people, and was always eager to learn most anything. She enjoyed reading, learning languages, cooking dishes from around the world, mythology, exploring different cultures, comics, art, crafts, and so much more.

Most of all, Sara loved her family. She's survived by her husband of nearly 20 years, Jason Owens, and three children, Kenzie Owens (21), Alex Owens (17), and Kara Owens (16). She also leaves behind a sister and two brothers. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Nancy, and her brother Dave.

A memorial service is planned for the morning of November 22, 2025. Please join us at Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield, Wisconsin to celebrate Sara. Visitation will start at 9:30 am, a service beginning at 10:30, with a celebration and lunch served after. For those attending, Sara's favorite color was blue in case you would like to wear something for her. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Elmbrook Humane Society or to breast cancer research charities. Information about a foundation in Sara’s name will be forthcoming.
