Robert P. Kunkel

May 17, 1928 — July 25, 2021

Robert P. Kunkel said his last, “Aw cripes!” and found peace on July 25th, 2021. He was at the home he shared with his daughter Kathy and was cared for and surrounded by his family. He was 93 years young. Bob was born in Sparta, WI and graduated from Milwaukee Boys Tech. He married the love of his life Jeanette, affectionately called “Johnnie,” and they celebrated 57 years of being unabashedly adorable together before her passing in 2004. He enjoyed a long career and retired from Broan Manufacturing Company, where he made and cherished lifelong friendships. He has lived with his daughter and caretaker Kathy for the past 14 years, and together, through the ups and downs of his good and bad days, they busied themselves finding fun and mischief with family and friends every chance they had. Bob’s loves were Johnnie, his family, being present, funny, and playful with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and of course, the Brewers and a nice glass of wine. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Kunkel (nee Pohlman); grandson P.J. Kunkel; parents Paul and Nita Kunkel, and two sisters, Barbara Kunkel and Sally Volkman. He is survived by many who will miss his zest for life and love of family, including: sons James (Pat) Kunkel and Paul (Robin) Kunkel, and daughter Kathy Kunkel; grandchildren- Mem, Jennifer (Mike), Andrea, Casey, Rebecca (Russ), Ashley, Elizabeth (Anthony), Turner (Jennifer); great grandchildren- Shawn, Eric, Mason, Melissa, Aiden, Silas, Alex, Olivia, Avery, Everleigh, Nathan, Nicholas, and Marion. He made a profound impact of each of them, and he will be remembered for his lively sense of humor and his loving, and playful ways. Never was a grand or great-grandchild met who didn’t treasure the joy and giggles of playing on the floor with their silly grandpa Bob. Bob would tell you he lived a full and happy life and that it was the love and busyness of his family that kept him going. He will be unexplainably missed by all who were lucky enough to have met him. He will be reunited with his sweet Johnnie both in spirit and at their final resting place at Wisconsin Memorial Park. Details regarding a memorial service, which will be held in early September, will be updated here. He would love for you to have a glass of wine for him. Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 11th, from 1pm to 5pm at Retzer Nature Center. Address: S14 W28167 Madison St, Waukesha, WI 53188 https://www.waukeshacounty.gov/retzernaturecenter
