Phillip Alan Hudachek, age 83, of Brookfield, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a recent recurrence of lung cancer.

Phillip was born in Lone Tree, Iowa, to Ralph and Ardelle Hudachek. In 1958, the family moved to Paxton, Illinois, where Phillip graduated from high school in 1962.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, enlisting on October 29, 1962, for a three-year term. After training at Fort Knox, he was stationed for two years at Headquarters Company of the 25th Infantry Division ("Tropic Thunder") at Schofield Barracks on Oahu, Hawaii. During his service, he earned Expert qualification with the M14 rifle and Sharpshooter qualification with the M1 Garand rifle, and attained the rank of Specialist (E-4).

Following his service in the Army, Phillip attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio-Television (Broadcast Communications). While at college, he was a radio broadcaster on WSIU radio channel.

Phillip and his wife, Janet, shared 53 years of marriage, filled with love, laughter, and more than a few adventures. He was a devoted husband, a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and a loving son and brother. Phillip was known for his incredibly dry sense of humor—a gift he never lost, even in his final days. Throughout his life Phillip enjoyed playing the game of golf; for several years he also was actively involved in gymkhana car racing. Like a true Wisconsinite, he had a love for taking in the beauty of Wisconsin’s landscapes while riding his motorcycle.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Hudachek; his daughter, Karen (Brian) Brandolino; his grandchildren, Dan McNeely (Alison Komas), Jessica Maude (Willie) Jackson, Amber (Edwin) Wincek, and Robert Brandolino; his great-grandchildren, Cairo Wayne and Rowan James Jackson, and Amalia Wincek; his sister, Mary Coffey; his brothers, John Hudachek and Dick Hudachek; his brothers-in-law, Richard Moore and Jeff (Judy) Moore; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

A Celebration of Phillip's Life will be held on Saturday, September 19, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the family home. Family and friends are invited to stop by to celebrate Phillip's life, share memories, and enjoy one another's company.
