Nancy Kay DeWees, born to John and Helen DeWees on August 26, 1944, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. Nancy is survived by her sister, Carol Hazen, her nephew, Lars Hazen, and her cousins, Janet and JoAnne Dobecki. She has been lovingly attended to during her last years by Erika Meyer and family, as well as the attentive staff at Renaissance care facility in New Berlin, Wisconsin.
Nancy earned a B.A. degree in education from Western Michigan University and the Masters Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. She was a dedicated and capable social worker who provided caring service to many through assignments in various Michigan locations. She retired from a senior management position where she was based in Escanaba, Michigan, and supervised health and human services offices throughout northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. As a respected community leader, she was active in several organizations and provided leadership for the Rotary Club of Escanaba. She donated generously to causes about which she was passionate.
Nancy loved God, her family, her friends, and her cats. She always had a soft heart for all living creatures. She sang beautifully, played the piano, and enjoyed dining out with friends. Her sweet spirit will be missed.
A private memorial service is planned. Donations in Nancy’s honor may be directed to the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission below or at 3839 West Burnham Street, West Milwaukee, WI 53215.
