Nancy L. Binko, 88, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, died peacefully in Menomonee Falls, WI on October 4, 2024, after a lengthy illness of leukemia.
She was born on September 21, 1936, in Bellevue, IA, and was the daughter of Clare and Helen Putman. Nancy received her bachelor’s degree in Music Ed at Viterbo College in LaCrosse, WI, and her master’s degree in Music Ed at UWM in Milwaukee, WI. Her 40-year teaching career included teaching grade school band, orchestra, singing, and piano, with the last 20 years teaching in the Hartland, WI, school district until 1998. After she and her husband, Jerry, moved to South Carolina, she kept up her piano teaching, which she enjoyed for 10 years.
Nancy and Jerry co-authored a Christian book, "Walk in Faith", which was published in 2018. She was part of the Women’s Club Ministry and organizer of three ministries at St. Benedict Catholic Church in SC —the Somerby Retirement Ministry, the Somerby Prayer Group, and the Kitchen Angels. Her faith was significant to her and sustained her in the ups and downs of everyday life.
People were drawn to Nancy by her warmth, and she loved bringing joy to others. Her children and grandchildren played an important role in her life. She enjoyed sharing the beauty of music with her students and produced many creative concerts and recitals during her teaching career. One of her past-times was ballroom dancing; she made many friends through the dance community in WI.
Nancy is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Binko. She is survived by her two daughters: Cathy Binko-DeRaimo (Frank) of Menomonee Falls, WI, and Jean Atman of Mount Pleasant, SC; her three grandchildren: Steven Binko, Madelaine Maczko, and Ella Maczko; and her three sisters: Carol Aranda of Tucson, AZ, Myra Dunnigan (Brian) of Salmon, ID, and DeeDee Warmack of Tucson, AZ.
A memorial service will be held at St. James Parish in the Historic Chapel at W220N6588 Town Line Rd, Menomonee Falls, WI, on November 2, 2024; visitation held at 10am(central time), memorial service at 11am(central time). Nancy’s final resting place will be in South Carolina; a funeral Mass will be held at St. Benedict Catholic Church in Mount Pleasant, SC at 950 Darrell Creek Trail on November 8, 2024, at 11am(eastern time). The interment will take place at St. Benedict Columbarium after Mass. A luncheon will be served afterwards.
Nancy’s family wish to express their deepest gratitude for the care given by the staff at Lakehouse Menomonee, Horizon Home Care & Hospice, and Froedtert Cancer Center.
“I shall pass this way but once; any good that I can do or any kindness I can show to any human being; let me do it now. Let me not defer nor neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.”
