Mary M. Stong passed away peacefully June 30, 2019, in Brookfield, WI. She was born in 1947 at Milwaukee Hospital "The Passavant." Daughter of Helen and Karl Stong of Whitefish Bay, the youngest of four children, she developed an independent streak and wry sense of humor, which she displayed to the very end of life even while battling serious illness. As an adult, she was a dedicated guardian to two cats, and supported causes for the environment, pets, and endangered species. Mary earned a B.A. in anthropology at the University of Wisconsin--Madison, concentrating in Native American Studies. She then pursued Journalism and Library Science at the Milwaukee branch. She shared her talents through work as a library technician, journalist, and broker's assistant. Throughout her life, Mary made lasting friendships. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, admired -- and affectionately teased -- for her candor. She is survived by her brother, Eugene Stong, and her sisters, Emily Myers and Linda Goss. Mary's family thanks her dear friend Jill Zimmerman for her immeasurable support.
