Martin (Marty) G Long

 

Marty was born in Macomb, IL to Frank and Helen Greer Long.  He attended Kost School, a one room schoolhouse in rural Vermont, IL through the 5th grade and then Vermont School through the 8th grade.  He graduated from V.I.T. High School in Table Grove, IL. In that same year he enlisted in the US Navy.  

 

He and his high school sweetheart, Linda, were married in San Francisco, CA.  After his Navy service, Marty attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering in Wisconsin before moving to Peoria, IL and starting his working career.  His work took him to Miami, FL, Yakima, WA, Milwaukee, WI, Bloomington, IL and lastly to Cunningham, Inc in Oskaloosa, IA. 

 

Marty passed on June 30, 2023 in North Prairie, WI.  His survivors are his beloved children, Max and Ginger Long, Brian and April Long, Marta and John Walejewski and grandsons: Wes, Brad, Cameron, and Mason Long and Nik and Josh Walejewski.  He is also survived by sister-in-law Mary Carmody of Texas and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren.  

 

Preceding him were his lovely wife Linda, his parents, sister Nancy (Elmer), Brother Jack (Mary Lou) and his sister Jeanette.  Also preceding were two brothers-in-law, a sister-in-law, a niece and three nephews.  

 

Marty enjoyed his work, his Harley and all of his biker friends.  He also enjoyed his high school reunions with wonderful friends from his past.  He was a Cub fan and Green Bay Packer fan and enjoyed the games…win or lose…but mostly win.  

 

Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery in Table Grove, IL.  Memorials may be made to the Vermont Christian Church in Vermont, IL or the American Legion #34 in Oskaloosa, IA.
