Loyola Elizabeth Curtis

Loyola E. Curtis was born to Eternal Life on September 4, 2021 at the age 96. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bryan B. Curtis, both of her parents, Henry and Elizabeth Martinmaas, brothers Max and William Martinmaas and sister Vivian Meyer. Loyola is survived by seven children, Teresa (Thomas) Fadden, Ann Akers, Janice (Daryl) Counts, James (Beth) Curtis, David (Mary) Curtis, Donna (James) Goebel and Charles (Michelle) Curtis. Loyola is also survived by her sister Mary Lee Keelin and brother Joseph Martinmaas, brother-in-law Jerry (Ruth) Curtis, 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and many friends. Loyola was born on a farm in Polo, South Dakota on May 10, 1925. After completing high school, she attended Notre Dame Junior College in Mitchell, South Dakota. Loyola was employed as a bookkeeper and secretary at a bank in Miller, South Dakota until she was married to Bryan. She and Bryan would live in Ree Heights, SD after their marriage but eventually would spend most of their married life in Huron, SD. In 1984, Bryan and Loyola moved to Minnesota where Bryan found work after the Armour Meats plant in Huron closed. In her new life in the Twin Cities area Loyola was a volunteer at the Apple Valley MN hospital, a founding member of the Velvatones musical group of Dakota County, a proud member of the Women of Apple Valley MN American Legion Post #1776 and of the Bloomington MN VFW post #1296 where she and Bryan worked Friday night ballroom dancing in the 1980's. Loyola and Bryan were elected Senior Queen and King of Apple Valley for their numerous volunteer efforts and contributions to that community. Loyola and Bryan were married for 49 years. After Bryan died in 1997, Loyola lived in Apple Valley and Hopkins, MN. Last year, Loyola moved to Wisconsin where she resided in an assisted living facility in Greendale. Loyola enjoyed being with people, especially family. She was extremely proud of all of her children. When she was able, she enjoyed travel. She took many wonderful trips to places including Germany, Vatican City, Hawaii, Amsterdam, Italy and many places in the United States. Special thanks to the caring staff at Clifden Court and the compassionate nurses at Seasons Hospice in Wauwatosa, WI. No services have been planned at this time. Loyola will be laid to rest with her husband at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN. Memorials to the Minnesota Lions Hearing Foundation, Inc. or a charity of your choice.
