Leo Fredrick Wallner, 86, of Pewaukee, WI, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on 07/21/2026 at home.

Born on 12/15/1939 in Milwaukee, WI to Arthur and Elizabeth Wallner, he was the 5th of 7 children. After high school, Leo served in the U.S. Air Force as a B-29 bomber mechanic. After his service, he followed in his father’s footsteps, becoming a highly skilled carpenter. He started his own contracting business, Wallner Builders, in 1975. He owned and operated Wallner Builders for 30 years.

Leo was known as a loving father to his six children, a caring husband to his wife, Alice, and was always ready to help anyone in need of assistance. He had a quick wit and infectious smile. Leo and Alice traveled the United States extensively, visiting many national parks, historical sites and wilderness areas. He particularly enjoyed long driving trips, especially out west.

When not working in his business, his recreation was work in another form. He loved working on cars and helping family with home improvement projects, and had an uncanny ability to fix nearly anything mechanical. He enjoyed staying current on national and world affairs, and always had time for his friends.

Leo also served his community as a long-time member of the New Berlin Board of Zoning Appeals. He was an active member of the Metropolitan Builders Association, serving on many boards and committees within the organization and receiving the award of Remodeling Contractor of the Year.

Leo is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Wallner; children: Betty (Willy) Kiefert, Todd (Beth) Welker, Marnie Osterbrink, Kelly Jo Koplitz, son in-law, Rick Koplitz, Jennifer (Curt) Andrews, and Michael (Jennifer) Wallner; as well as grandchildren and Zach, Leo, and Alice’s rescue dog. He was preceded in death by his parents, his 6 siblings and many other beloved friends and family.

Leo was incredibly proud of all his children, daughters and sons-in-law, and grandchildren. His legacy of honesty, humor, hard work, appreciation of the past and love of nature will live on in them. He will be dearly missed by all of them and his wife.

A memorial service will be held on August 14, 2026 at 2pm at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, 1205 S. East Ave. Waukesha, WI 53186. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, ASPCA, or Children’s Hospital.
