Obituary

Larry Howard Lemmenes of Okauchee, Wisconsin, died peacefully on Sunday, December 21, 2025, at the age of 83. He was born on February 8, 1942, to Howard and Everdean Lemmenes of Alto, Wisconsin.

Larry graduated from Waupun High School in 1960 and Hope College in 1964. On July 3, 1964 he married Gretchen Hull in a ceremony at Trinity Reformed Church. Larry and Gretchen had a wonderful family, including a daughter, two sons, and eight grandchildren.

Surviving Larry is his wife, Gretchen Lemmenes; daughter, Rebecca de Vogel of Milwaukee, her children: Calvin, Annika, and Oliver, and their father, David; son, Karl (Christine) Lemmenes of Madison and their children: Aris, Alexander, and Emily; son, Daniel (LaDonna) Lemmenes of Fridley, Minnesota, and their children, Peyton and Greysen.

Also surviving Larry are his siblings: Dewey (Ginger) Lemmenes, Ann S. Lemmenes, Ellen (Stephen) Grams, and Jane Derksen-Chene (Stephen); nieces and nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Lorna (James) Kitchak; and his brother-in-law, Derk (Jane) Derksen.

Larry’s early career started at the Fort Howard Paper Company in Green Bay. He spent most of his adult life living and raising a family in Waupun, while farming near Montello and Woodhull, eventually transitioning to positions at the Alto Dairy Cooperative, where he retired as president and general manager in 2005.

Larry’s Christian faith was central to his life: he was a member of Alto Reformed Church, then Trinity Reformed Church of Waupun, where he served as elder and vice president of the consistory as well as president of the Reformed Church Classis of Wisconsin, and Kettle Moraine United Presbyterian Church, where he served on the session.

Throughout his life Larry enjoyed gardening and hunting. He also dedicated his time and skills to civic service, serving on many national, state, and local boards, advocating for farmers and his community. He was a nine-year member of the Waupun School Board.

A memorial ceremony will be held at Kettle Moraine United Presbyterian Church on February 7, 2026. Visitation will be held at 11:00 a.m., with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m.
