Klaus Hartter

Waukesha - Klaus Hartter passed away on January 30, 2022 at age 73. Beloved husband of Carol Ann (nee Kolda) for 39 years. Brother of Juergen (the late Nancy), uncle to Carly Deer (Shawn) and nephews Tyler and Owen. Born in Germany, the family emigrated to Milwaukee in 1953. Klaus graduated from Wisconsin Lutheran and UWM. He served over 6 years in the National Guard. He worked with his father in the family business, Hartter's Bakeries. Together with Juergen they opened Hartter's European Café and Bar at Mayfair, followed by many bakery sites, cafes and restaurants. They were always involved in the numerous summer festivals. Klaus also had weekends of making up to 40 wedding cakes. He was a talented baker! Klaus loved all dogs and the outdoors; hiking in Door County, our Sister Bay condo and living on 12 acres. He enjoyed helping Carol in her store Scandinavia Fine Furniture, including many buying trips to Denmark. He especially liked going on deliveries with Tim. His favorite pastimes were working out, driving nice cars, an occasional cigar, dark beer, and walking with the dog. He will be missed by his crows and deer whom he fed for 25 years, our dog Hollie, and many wonderful friends. Memorials appreciated to the Door County Land Trust or any Humane Society. A memorial gathering will be held at a future date.
