John Andrew Weinkauf, 85, of New Berlin, WI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, with his family by his side. John was known for his sense of humor, strong opinions, and colorful use of the English language. While he was not the most emotional guy you would ever meet, his love for his wife, daughter, son-in-law, stepson, ten grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and fur babies was never questioned. His favorite family event was the monthly family dinners, where he would sit back with a smile on his face and a vodka and seltzer in hand to watch the chaos that always ensued. We will miss his kindness, compassion, and wit.
John was also a very committed employee and union president during his 45+ years with AMPCO Metal. He always worked to ensure he and his fellow employees received fair wages, treatment, and benefits, which could be difficult in a manufacturing setting. He took many of the friendships with him when he retired and looked forward to his regular breakfast meetings “with the guys” at the local restaurant. He also loved his lunches with his childhood Racine buddies.
We are very appreciative of the care he received from the Waukesha Memorial Hospital ICU and hospice care teams during his short stay with them. Their care and compassion for him and the family were exemplary.
John is survived by his loving wife, Cherylynn (Cheryl) of New Berlin; beloved daughter, Ronda Baxter of Oconomowoc; David, son-in-law (husband of Ronda); stepson, Todd Krasselt; stepdaughter, Trina Krasselt; grandchildren: Jessica Simons, John (JD) and Jessica Simons, Amanda and Travis Pronschinske, Rachel Simons and Shannon Alsteen, Kelly Baxter, Leah and Zach Seibl, Ryan and Laura Baxter, Corrina King, and Deelane Kyrola; 27 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Joyce Weinkauf (Bettendorf, IA); brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Jan Jewell; three nieces, five nephews, his fur baby, Anke, and his beloved cowboy boots.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Leslie (Les) and Marion; his brother, Leslie (Les), Jr.; his great grandchild, Graysen; his stepdaughter, Tracy Robinson; and his fur babies: Belle, Maggie, Ambrosia, and Katie.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a service starting at 11:30 a.m. Following the service, the family will be hosting a luncheon. The visitation, service, and luncheon will be held at Fox River Congregational Church – Church in the Woods, N34W23575 Capitol Drive in Pewaukee, WI. Rev. Dr. Lonnie Richardson will preside.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to St. Jude’s Hospital or your local animal rescue shelter would be appreciated.
