Obituary

John E. Howe, of Sussex, WI, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2026, at the age of 90.

John learned at an early age how to repair things out of necessity to get chores done on the family farm. He carried this gift for the rest of his life.

The day after graduation from Iron River High School, John took a bus and moved to Milwaukee, WI where he soon found work at Allis Chalmers in West Allis. He then moved on to The Falk Corporation where he spent his career as a designer. He enjoyed designing, engineering and troubleshooting great projects such as huge gears and transmissions for the largest ships and equipment in the world. John was one of the first at Falk to work with computerized drafting. He worked on “Falk Marine Gear Drives and Clutches”, a specific product line designed for ship maneuverability, a trip to Germany for this project was a highlight of his career. He enjoyed the camaraderie of his fellow workmates and the pride they showed in their work.

John retired to his family homestead where he enjoyed working in the woods and building projects. He helped all of his children with their home remodeling projects. John had a special project: designing and building a bridge with DNR approval. With his son Mickey, they built and installed the bridge across the Brule Creek on his homestead.

John enjoyed traveling and spending some winters with his traveling partner, his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Howe. John was blessed with 7 grandchildren who he enjoyed teaching, and his 9 great grandchildren made him smile.

John is survived by his children: John Michael (Mickey) Howe, Eric Howe, Amy Dudash, and Dawn (Earl) Cull; granddaughters: Kristin Dudash, Lisa Dudash, Sarah (Tony Skonieczny) Cull, and Bridget (Jon) Wieser; grandsons: Clint (Kirsten) Cull, Jonathon Howe, and William (Colleen Hann) Howe; great-grandchildren: Liam, Brady, Charlie, Declan, Joey, Benjamin and Annalise, and Teagan and Maura; sibling, Barbara (the late John) Lewis; brothers-in-law, Robert (the late Darlene) Beauchamp, Nick (the late Jo Ann) Grasso, Raymond (Fran) Bregger, Tom (Kathy) Bregger, Mike (Peggy) Bregger, and Jim (Karen) Bregger; he is further survived by other relatives and friends.

Preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie Belle Bregger Howe; his parents, John N and Zelna Powell Howe; sister, Joan (Dennis) Bloecher; niece: Maria Grasso; and nephews, Robby and Scotty Beauchamp.

Visitation will be Saturday, May 16, 2026, at St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, W314N7462 State Road 83, North Lake from 10:30 am until the time of service at noon.
