Joan L. Hill (nee Stiehm), known for her warm smile and kind heart, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2024, at the age of 92. She was surrounded by her loving family in her daughter's home in Waukesha County, where she had spent her final days battling Alzheimer's.
Born on December 27, 1931, in Elkhart, Indiana, Joan was the beloved daughter of Oliver Stiehm and Georgia Burton.
She is survived by her 6 children, Jennifer (Ken) Sajdak, Sandra (Dave) Vogt, Rick Van Der Wal, Tony Van Der Wal, Beth (Dan) Van Der Wal, and Heidi Van Der Wal.
Joan was a proud grandmother to eleven grandchildren: Brian (Kim) Sajdak, Stuart Sajdak, Janine Sajdak, Chris (Jessica) Vogt, Jesse Vogt, Richard (Jessica) Van Der Wal, Nicholas (Jaclyn) Van Der Wal, Joseph (Melissa) Van Der Wal, Mike Van Der Wal, Kiki (Nick) Myhre, and Ryan Van Der Wal.
Joan also had fourteen great-grandchildren: Jacob, Hannah, Matthew, Abigail, Owen, Eric, Prince, Kayden, Charlotte, Adari, Evren, Sienna, Genevieve, and Skyler, who brought immense joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Beverly Wenta and Janice Heyer, and her husbands, Henry Van Der Wal and Dennis Hill.
In her free time, Joan enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, roller skating, and dancing.
Joan leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to inspire all those who loved her. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the honor of knowing her.
In this time of grief, let us remember the joy that Joan brought into our lives. We celebrate her life – a life well-lived – and we are comforted by the knowledge that she has found eternal peace. May she rest in peace knowing that she has left an indelible mark on our hearts.
