Jean Margaret
Dilworth
May 1, 1930 – May 7, 2026
Louis R. Dilworth
Jean M. Dilworth
Louis Dilworth was born to eternal life on March 4, 2019, at the age of 92. He was born in Kamloops, British Columbia, and was the youngest son of Joseph and Martha Dilworth. He was a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering and a Master’s degree in Applied Science. Lou was a true rocket scientist having worked on fuel cell technology projects for NASA at the Allis-Chalmers research facility in Greendale, WI. Later in his career, he worked on coal gasification technology and designed mobile systems to clean up Superfund sites. He held several patents related to his work at Allis-Chalmers.
Jean (Fleming) Dilworth joined Lou in their heavenly home on May 7, 2026, at the age of 96. She was born in Drinkwater, Saskatchewan, and was the youngest daughter of William Jr. and Muriel Fleming. Jean received her diploma in nursing from Regina General Hospital School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alverno College, and her Master’s degree in Adult Education from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. She began her nursing career in public health, serving in British Columbia and with the City of Milwaukee Health Department. Jean later joined the faculty at Milwaukee Area Technical College as a nursing instructor. She was a passionate nursing educator who was dedicated to instructing and mentoring future generations of healthcare professionals.
In 1960, Lou and Jean met in northern British Columbia where Lou had a temporary teaching position and Jean was working as a public health nurse. They married soon after and moved to the Milwaukee area, eventually settling in Greendale. They quickly made friends who became like family. In retirement, they traveled across the U.S. and Canada in their Holiday Rambler trailer. When it was time to hang up the keys, they moved to The Villages where they enjoyed many rounds of golf and the Florida sunshine.
Jean loved golf, water aerobics, collecting Hummels and Mother’s Day plates, a box of good chocolates, and most importantly, spending time with family and friends. She loved to talk to anyone and never met a stranger. Lou was famous for his martinis (always with extra olives for sharing) and his cooking, only giving away his exact recipes to a select few. He loved the backyard in Greendale, tending to his wild flower garden and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed a good round of golf and any kind of puzzle, word or jigsaw. Their Cairn terriers, Ceri, Nikko, and Keisha, were their constant companions.
Lou and Jean are survived by their daughter, Elyce, and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends across the U.S. and Canada. We are grateful for the many friends, family, neighbors, and occasional strangers who walked along side us and supported us in Lou and Jean’s later years. Heartfelt thanks to Jean’s caregivers at the Congregational Home in Brookfield for their many years of love and compassion. Lou and Jean will be deeply missed by all who knew them. We look forward to the day we will meet again.
Lou and Jean liked to celebrate big events in life with a drink, a good meal, or even a piece of pie or kringle. In lieu of a traditional service, we invite everyone who knew and loved them to spend a quiet moment celebrating in your own way and sharing your favorite memory of them. If so desired, contributions may be sent to a charity of your choice.
