Greg Nies Sr., born on November 29, 1946, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, June 24, 2026.
Greg was the beloved husband and best friend of Terri for 43 wonderful years. He was a loving father to Robert (Sharee) Nies and Eric Nies, and a proud grandfather to Aryanna (Aaron) Deamron, Tyler Nies, Nathan Nies, Mikel (Jesse) Nies, Madison Nies, and Melanie Nies. He was also a cherished great-grandfather to Caleb, Charlotte, Riley, Arlo, and Eleanor. Greg was a devoted and loving brother to Gary (Carol) Nies and his sister Debbie Kumlien.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marcy Nies, and his sons, Greg Brian Nies and Daniel Nathan Nies.
Greg attended Whitewater College for Business and later attended Oral Roberts University for Ministry. He began his career opening department stores then switched to doing accounting (for Merchants Wholesale).
He accepted the Lord in 1980 and began serving the Lord at the 700 Club as a counselor. Next he became the Operation Blessing Coordinator for Milwaukee. Greg did direct sales before answering God's call to start Cutting Edge Ministries, where he and Terri did marriage seminars in Waupun and Columbia prisons, coordinated feeding programs and outreaches to help inner city churches, conducted Bible Studies, and held Praise Nights, and Inner Healing Prayer Services. At this time, Greg became a chaplain at Waupun Correctional Institution.
In 1994, he planted and pastored New Beginnings Fellowship, a ministry that remained close to his heart. His greatest passion was leading people to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in the power of the Holy Spirit. Throughout his ministry, Greg also authored more than 20 books sharing his faith and the experiences he had with the Lord..
Greg will be remembered for his unwavering faith, compassionate heart, and steadfast commitment to serving others. His love for God, his family, and everyone whose life he touched leaves a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., with a celebration of Greg's life immediately following. Both the visitation and memorial service will be held at Urban Poiema Church (inside Blessed Hope), 3177 S. 107th St., West Allis, WI 53227.
Family and friends are welcome to bring a small bouquet of flowers to put into available vases at the visitation in memory of Greg.
