Gerald Joseph Neher

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Alice Neher, and his sisters Joan (LaVere) Kent and Mary Ellen (Bob) Graeff. He is survived by three children, Jay, Julie, and Jennie. He is also survived by his girlfriend, DeLores Holzem. After graduation from high school in 1954, Gerry joined the U.S. Army for 2 years and reinlisted for a 3rd year. he was in the 41st Tank Battalion Company B. He enjoyed the reunions which were held in Branson, MO where he could catch up with a great bunch of army buddies. Upon returning from the U.S. Army, Gerry joined the Torque Twisters Car Club. Gerry and other members of the club were instrumental in building Great Lakes Dragway along with Broadway Bob. Gerry was Tech Director, Tech Inspector and Announcer at the Dragway for several years. He also was an announcer at Cedarburg Racetrack and State Fair Park Dirt Track. He was a substitute announcer at several other racetracks in the area when they needed someone to help out. Several years ago, he was elected to the Great Lakes Dragway Hall of Fame. "We wish to thank Doctor Francis McCann for the excellent care given to Gerry and we also wish to thank Amy and the staff at Serenity Villa for the excellent and comfortable care given to Gerry. You are all the best he could have had. Thank you!" A memorial gathering in Gerry's honor will be held on Tuesday, October 8 at 11:00 am at St. Robert Church in Union Grove with a placement of cremated remains and Military Honors to follow at 2:00 pm at Southern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery, also in Union Grove. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Gerry's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
