Gene Ann Reddick (nee Dettmering), affectionately known as “Genie” by her family and friends, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2026, after a courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of cancer (cholangiocarcinoma). She was 77 years old.
Born on September 25, 1949, Genie was the youngest of four daughters born to Harold and Winnie Dettmering. She grew up in Mukwonago, WI, and spent the last three decades living in the Hartland area, where she built a beautiful life surrounded by family, community, and nature.
She was an incredible, devoted mother to Nicholas Gingrass, Joseph (Tracy) Gingrass, and Lauren (Blake) Buckley. Her greatest joy, however, was her role as Oma. She graciously cared for and relentlessly spoiled her grandchildren: Matt, Eliot, Lucy, Nathan, Teddy, and Eliza.
Gene will also be remembered for her mental acuity and physical strength. She balanced the demands of raising her three children with a trailblazing career. She was one of Fiserv’s earliest employees and worked as a programmer and systems analyst for more than 40 years. Her work ethic, ingenuity, and dedication left a lasting legacy.
In retirement, her excitement for life and love of family only grew. Besides spending time with her grandkids, she loved to kayak and take long walks with her dog, Remy. She could often be found meticulously clearing weeds from around the docks at her Nagawicka Lake condo, a manifestation of her active spirit and the love she had for her home and neighbors.
Genie was a beautiful and remarkable mother, Oma, sister, aunt, neighbor, and friend. While her passing leaves a profound void, her family takes comfort in knowing she is reunited with her late husband, Charles Reddick, and her partner of many years, David “Luke” Staven.
A celebration of life will be held on December 20, 2026, at The Valerie (1281 Blue Ribbon Dr., Suite 200, Oconomowoc, WI 53066), from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Genie’s memory to the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.
