Dr. O’Mara was born in El Paso, TX, where his father served in the U.S. Calvary and spent most of his childhood in the western U.S. among the states of Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, and Oregon. He attended Oregon State University for his bachelor’s degree and graduated from the Oregon Health Sciences University in 1966, where he met his wife Diane while she was finishing her OT residency.
After a year of internship in Santa Clara, CA, Dr. O’Mara's residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin was paused by serving in United States Air Force for 2 years, stationed at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, OK. Once he finished his time in the Air Force, Dr. O’Mara and his family moved back to WI, where Diane grew up, first residing in Milwaukee and then settling into their home of 40-plus years in Oconomowoc. During this time in Wisconsin, Dr. O’Mara’s other 3 children: Neil, Tim, and Paul were born.
Dr. O’Mara had his own practice in Oconomowoc, WI, for many years before joining the ProHealth Care organization, during which time he served thousands of patients at his office, Oconomowoc Memorial Hospital, and Waukesha Memorial Hospital. Dr. O’Mara’s family would like to sincerely thank all the staff at Waukesha Memorial who took care of him during these last few months, they could not have been kinder or taken better care of him.
