Dennis Ray Steinmann, age 82, of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, passed away Sunday, December 24th, 2023, following a brief illness. He peacefully passed surrounded by loved ones.
Born April 9, 1941, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to David and Edna (Haas). As the youngest of five, Dennis looked up to his older brothers: Roland, David JR, Frederick, his sister, Edith, and enjoyed a large extended family.
Following high school, Dennis joined the United States Navy. At that time he also married his sweetheart Phyllis (Kressin). Together they had four wonderful children.
After leaving the military, the young couple settled back in Southeast Wisconsin. Dennis worked a variety of jobs: a machinist at Kearney & Trecker, he co-owned and operated an automotive body shop in Grafton, car sales, and then spent a long time in the automotive insurance industry.
It was at American Family that he met his second wife, Patricia (Lawson). The two married in 1985 in Arizona and spent 29 years together building a life. They were avid outdoor enthusiasts and shared many adventures while traveling and exploring the USA, Mexico, and Canada. They enjoyed the closest of friendships and remained in touch after parting ways.
Throughout much of his life, Dennis was passionate about boating, fishing, motorcycling, trapshooting, classic cars, the outdoors, and spending time with friends and family.
Dennis lived a life that had happy and sad times, adversity and success, good health and decline, yet faced it with pride, resilience, humor, and humility.
On Christmas Eve, a night known for love and peace on Earth, the last surviving child of Edna and David, was reunited with his parents, brothers, and sister.
Dennis was loved dearly and will be greatly missed by his children: Dana (Mark) Wrich, Brett, William (Jenny), and Dawn (James); grandchildren: Derek (Rachel) Wrich, Tyler (Jaydyn) Wrich, Sophie (Rob) Obrien, and Kyle (Alyssa) Morris; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
