Obituary

Barbara Lee Stremick-Hierl, age 61, left her earthly home on September 10, 2026, surrounded by nature, family, and friends after a seven-year battle with cancer that she faced with courage, bravery, and never-ending optimism. Barb was born on May 26, 1965, in Monroe, Wisconsin, the beloved daughter of Sharon and Jacob Stremick. She was raised on the Stremick family farm in Brodhead, Wisconsin, and graduated from Brodhead High School in 1983.

She married Mark Hierl on July 13, 1991. They were fortunate to share their love together for 40 years in all. She was a dedicated, proud, and loving mother to her son, Keaton Stremick. She lovingly created cherished memories with him and always gave him unconditional love and support as he found his own path. Together, the family lived in Wauwatosa, WI; North Prairie, WI; Waukesha, WI; and Oconomowoc, WI. Daisies, angels, lighthouses, candles, music, art, clouds, and nature were among the things Barb loved most. They were common themes in the beautiful settings she created in the homes she decorated for her family.

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she became a writer, producer, and director of multimedia, motion and meeting media, films, and documentaries. She was recognized for her creativity and unique artistic style. Barb’s innate sense of wanderlust fueled her love of travel, taking her to all 48 contiguous states, as well as France, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic.

A bright light in the lives of all who knew her, Barb was a compassionate and loving person whose deep convictions guided the way she lived and interacted with others. She cared deeply for others, offered kindness freely, and brought warmth and encouragement wherever she traveled. Barb’s love was genuine, her heart was generous, and her convictions were rooted in a profound sense of purpose and compassion.

Barb leaves behind a legacy not only in the memories of those who loved her, but also in the lives she touched through her presence, kindness, and unwavering love. She will always be remembered for her selflessness, kindness, and helpfulness. Her love for others was evident to all who knew her. Though deeply and forever missed, Barb’s light will continue to shine through all who carry her memory in their hearts.

Barb is survived by her husband of 35 years, Mark Hierl of Oconomowoc, WI; her son, Keaton Stremick of Phoenix, AZ; her father, Jacob Stremick of Brodhead, WI; brother, Brent of Brodhead, WI; brother, Paul (JoAnna Gollmer Stremick) of Cambridge, WI; sister, Laura of Ixonia, WI; and nephew, Jacob T. Stremick of Brodhead, WI. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sharon Stremick, in 2020.

A celebration and remembrance of Barb’s life will be held on Saturday, October 10, from 12–3 p.m. at Smoke on the Water, N50W35016 Wisconsin Avenue, Okauchee Lake, WI. All who were fortunate enough to feel Barb’s light, love, kindness, and spirit are invited to attend.

Barb’s family would like to thank the kind and gracious staff of AngelsGrace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI, for their compassionate care.
